Click here to stop the newest threat to Internet... →
A new global treaty could allow corporations to police what we do on the Internet. Last week we successfully pushed back the US censorship bills — if we act now, we can get the EU Parliament to bury this new threat — add your voice now!

Installing the latest R in Ubuntu
At work I have Ubuntu Maverick installed. However, the official packages are a bit outdated. Alternatively, one can add them from an rcran mirror. In order to do that, you have to add a line to your /etc/apt/sources/list file. The following did it for me deb http://mirrors.softliste.de/cran/bin/linux/ubuntu maverick/ In order to put the setup to work you further need to add the gpg key for the...

ROILA - Robot Interaction Language →
This is kind of the other way to do it. I’ve spent my whole PhD bitching about the complexity of human languages, and how bringing them to robotic systems will be very hard to achieve, and these guys just pulled a Columbus Egg. Build a language with robots in mind! Chapeau!

Wild cat found mimicking monkey calls; Predatory... →
This is a pretty cool finding! Wild cats using vocal mimicry to manipulate monkeys’ behaviour. The more we know about animal behaviour, the more the perceived gap between human and animal intelligence shrinks.

Preparing for GuruPlug
According to news from the guys at NewIT, I’ll probably be receiving my GuruPlug Server in the next days! Yeah!! I’ve been using a NSLU2 with Debian over the last years for video streaming, file sharing and torrent downloading (only legal ones, of course). The GuruPlug has a bit more horsepower to offer, which not only means that there will be much less stuttering with videos, but also that more...

First post or blogging from TextMate
I used to have a Wordpress blog, bug soon got tired of all its features. It’s too bloated for my taste, and wouldn’t blend in with a normal website, which is what I’d like to embed this blog into, as Adrifolio explains. So this is why I’m using tumblr now. I’m still setting up the environment, syntax highlighting still broken in TextMate, and not getting the same nice preview results as...
